Phones
February 9th, 2011Sometimes when the phone rings and L is sleeping I just can’t get up to answer because I don’t want to have to talk. Silence can be very restorative.

Whoa! When did you get so big, L? I’m in shock that we’re all still alive and thriving. Apparently, I haven’t screwed her up too much either because she seems happy and healthy. (Apart from the screaming that comes with teething - we’re awaiting the top teeth now.) Crawling has also progressed. When properly motivated (usually by something she’s not supposed to have) she will crawl forwards.?? Otherwise, she crawls backwards and she’s very fast at it. One second my babe will be next to me, the next she’ll be contemplating the basement steps. (That really happened yesterday.)
Hmm, lots of parenthesis today.
Hair cut in 2 days! Woot!
This is what Lillian is thinking when she looks at me. We’ve seen nothing but one another for the past 3 days and she (ok, and I) have had enough. She was playing today and everything was fine as long as I was in the room and not looking at her. If I looked at her, she cried. To add insult to injury I’m beyond exhausted because her majesty took only 2 25 minute naps today. What the hell, baby?
In other news, L is now crawling. Backwards. But hey, at least it’s on her hands and knees:) I assume forwards will be figured out eventually and then the dog and cat will have to run for their lives.
It’s so nice to be back home. I know where everything is and how to make it work, Lillian has her own bedroom, my sewing is here to keep me busy while she naps. It’s nice getting out and visiting people but nothing beats home.
We’re attempting to fly to Atlanta today. I say attempting because it’s our 3rd try, first two were canceled because of ice. So. I have everything L might possibly need packed and then some and I know I’ll forget something important, like the baby. We’re flying with a stroller and car seat, 2 carryons and a checked bag. What happened to being able to fly with just a carryon? I miss it already and I haven’t even started.
I love peanut butter. It’s my favorite food and I was praying and hoping that L didn’t have an allergy to it because it would be a tough decision: get rid of pb, get rid of L. Luckily for her, she doesn’t seem to be allergic to peanuts. Over the past 3 days I’ve been giving her tiny tastes and they went down and stayed down and she didn’t blow up like a balloon. Yea for small successes!
Here’s the deal. I will give a handmade gift to the first 3 people to comment on this post. However, you then have to post the same thing on your blog promising something handmade to the first 3 commentators. We’ve got all of 2011 to make the damn things so don’t stress about it, just post! This will be fun, I think I MIGHT get 2 posts from the only 2 people that read this. Score.
I’m spending today packing for L’s first trip on a plane. We’re flying to Atlanta and if you hadn’t heard, Atlanta airport is closed today due to an ice storm. Thousands of canceled flights. This leaves me wondering - when will all those people fly? Please God, not tomorrow when I’m supposed to be taking my teething 7 month old on a plane. Her first plane.
If that wasn’t enough to keep my mind occupied, Tim and I have been trying to figure out how to get L, all the bags, stroller and car seat into the airport and park the car.?? I’d stand outside and do curbside check-in if it weren’t freezing outside. Also, if we didn’t have to be at the airport right at L’s nap time.
I will be hitting up one of the bars at the airport and downing a shot or two to keep me relaxed. Maybe L will too. Wait, scratch that.
My one and only reader. I think I’ll change my site name to “Letters to Laura.” Awesome.
Houston, we have a tooth! Yep, Lillian’s first tooth popped up today. I think she knows it’s there, she’s been making funny faces since this afternoon. I can’t wait til it gets a bit bigger and gets in the way of her tongue which is always hanging out of her mouth. Honestly, sometimes she looks like she rides the special bus. I’m going to hell for that - Hey Laura, I’ll see you there!
