11 days of school left. 11 DAYS!!!! What am I doing home and online?! Got to go.
I patterned and sewed the gowns for Mrs. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice - our last show! Here’s the day dress
And of course she needs an evening gown and here it is…

Now I have to go to school.
I was working late last night at school (like normal) and decided to take a quick break to check my email and there it was, an email from Williamsburg. You see, Thursday night I sent in my resume and applied for the position of Tailor A and they got back to me in one day! They are sending me a skills test to check out my sewing technique. Very exciting. Plus, on my application I put that I coulcn’t start work till September and the woman said she had reviewed my application so she must have seen that and replied to me anyway.
Enough lollygagging, got to get back to school.
I had a bad day. My fitting for P&P went really, really poorly. i ended up taking apart everything I had done so I could fix it and then spent the day just trying to get back to where I had been. One dress is back to how it was this morning and the other is sort of more advanced and sort of behind, I picked some different things to work on.
And while I’m complaining I’m going to add that standing all day on cement floors is really awful and my legs are throbbing.
now i’m off to find some cookies
A couple of days ago I was basting in the sleeve to a gown I’m making for Pride and Prejudice and I basted my finger to my sleeve without knowing it. I kept trying to pull my hand out and I couldn’t. It was actually a bit scary till I realized what I had done, then I laughed. Then I was worried - I just SEWED MY FINGER TO THE SLEEVE and I DIDN’T KNOW! What is happening to me? Just yesterday I pinned my finger into the same bodice and had no idea. AGAIN, NO IDEA.
Well, I hope you laughed.
Brita, old onion, mustard, lemon juice, horseradish, salsa, butter, soy milk, orange juice.
Next time i’ll make it to the grocery store? I’m guessing Saturday…hopefully…
I don’t really want to work on the essay that is due in a week so instead of looking at the blank screen and flashing cursor I decided to write here, where I don’t have to footnote myself.
Busy and tiring is my life right now. I’m doing so much handwork that I feel I might actually be living in the past. I have a fitting on Thursday for my 18th Century suit. I’m very excited and very nervous. This is my first fitting in real fabric - silk/rayon duchess satin. Here’s a pic of the suit I’m reproducing, right down to the self covered buttons. At least I don’t have to make the lace too, that I bought.
My eyes are drooping, I’ll probably end up going to bed and forget all about my paper…for tonight.
It’s so beautiful today. I took a liesurely stroll around the public gardens before I went to school. Then I was super productive and I left early, bought a magazine and read it down on the water front. I only left because it’s getting a bit chilly out.
I have decided not to pay attention to the weather forcast that says it will be getting colder and instead I will believe that spring is on its way. There, done. HELLO SPRING!
Large men walking small dogs
Dogs wearing coats
Dogs wearing booties
Small canadian children carrying small hockey sticks
Overly enthusiastic reenactors
My professor’s French-Canadianisms
Splits club
And that’s it for today.
