Feels like Autumn, sort of

Friday, September 30th, 2005

The weather here is finally taking a dip and now it feels like early September to me. Warm afternoons, cool evenings. I still wear shorts and tank tops for biking. Tomorrow is October 1 and I’m still wearing shorts! I don’t really know how to react to this weather. I guess it’s the upside to the nasty hot summers they have here.
Here’s a funny story from this week. I got up in the morning and went to make coffee then went to the bathroom. When I went back into the kitchen I just stood there stunned at my stupidity. I had put the filter into the basket, added coffee but then I hadn’t put the basket back in. Not bad you say? Ha! it gets better. I hadn’t put the carafe in its place either. So I stood there and watched hot water fly around my kitchen counter. It was too early for me to really react to it, standing and watching was all I could manage. I am glad that I hadn’t put the basket under because then I would have had to clean up coffee from everywhere instead of just letting the hot water evaporate. Yes, I let the water evaporate.

This next section is in praise of my friend Alyce who says whatever comes to mind. We were driving around last Friday looking for a parking space when some of the track to jogged by quite close to the car. Well, Alyce leaned over and yelled “Helllooooooo Nurse!” They were stunned, actually lost their pace. I laughed so hard my face was red. It was great. Thank you Alyce.

no hot water, too cold to shower. pipes making funny noises, chance of having hot water tomorrow slim to none. probability of taking another wash cloth shower - very high.

Finally

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

There have been a lot of “finally’s” recently. For instance:

Finally washed my bike

Finally found a bread recipe that works for me

Finally got my hair cut

Finally finished the red silk gown for work

Finally got lights for my bike, now I’m safe and am a moving strobe light

Finally cleaned my apartment - there are a lot of parts to this one which I won’t bore you with. Needless to say, the place was a pigstye

Finally started my trousers - must get back to them this coming week because I need to “finally finish them”

Finally altered a dress pattern so it would fit me better.

Finally got a second job - haven’t started yet but the hard part is done.

So you see, lots of things getting done/ending. Quite the time I’ve had. Now let’s see if I can “Finally finish my romance novel.”

Nothing better then pasta and bread. Wait, where’s my beer?

Success!

Last night in a moment of unrest I decided to try my hand at baking bread, this time with a different recipe. I now have two perfect loaves of bread and I am very happy. I ate some this morning, so good. Now I don’t have to go to the store to buy bread, Sweet!

Hurricane Ophelia?

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

Weather sites kept saying - beware high winds and lots of rain. People in town kept saying they were stalking up on bottled water and batteries. Did anything happen? Did we even get a drop of much needed rain? No, nope, nothing. No wind, no rain, not even a dark cloud or two. We did get some humidity so it wasn’t a complete loss.

Funny story not connected to hurricane ophelia but in a way to humidity.

A friend came over two nights ago and she had this great idea to bring ice cream. In a bowl. She went from the ice cream shop to my place with a giant bowl of ice cream melting in her car. When I opened the screen door for her she came running in with this pink soupy mess overflowing onto some junk mail she had put underneath it. When I asked her about this interesting method for shipping ice cream she said: “I had a coupon, it seemed like such a good idea. I just forgot to factor in the temperature outside, and in my car.” This is very similar to the time she brought a cake over and instead of taking off the bottom of the springform pan she left it on, and then set it on a plate and then put it on the seat of her car. Needless to say it wanted to slide off the plate. To prevent the cake from hitting the floor she put it on her lap thus decorating her shirt with icing. Someone needs to get this girl a basket, a basket with a plastic liner.

Where Have I Been?

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

So folks, you may have been wondering where is Julianne? Did she get lost in the wilds of Williamsburg? No! I’ve been dog sitting. It was a good time hanging out with dogs again, playing, walking, getting slobbered on. There were two older dogs and one young dog and I could just see the older dogs shaking their heads at the youngster; “Look at her running around, doesn’t she know she could hurt herself? Waste of energy.” I’m pretty sure that’s what they were thinking.
Other then hanging with the dogs I haven’t been up to too much. Went on a bike ride yesterday, went on a walk with another dog this afternoon. This week at work I have the option of doing overtime which I will accept because that money will be good. And that wraps it up. I will try to think of funny posts for the future, don’t want to bore you with the mundane details of my life.

It’s the Little Things

I would like to thank all those lovely college boys who go running in the mornings and evenings for making my commute so much more, well, enjoyable. A special thanks goes out to the track team. I am not ashamed to admit that I like watching a bunch of athletic guys run shirtless.
